In 2018 I worked on a project to design an affordable Urban bikelight for 'BBB Cycling'. The bikelight must be easy to fix and to remove from the bike. The bikelight should be rechargeable and the design must fit with the brand.
'THE EASYBEAM'
'THE EASYBEAM' is easy to fix and to remove from the handle bar due to the use of a rubber band. This makes it possible to attach the light with even one hand to the handle bar. In this project the focus was mainly on the design of the bikelight, to make it fit with the brand and to make the product easy in use.
Foam models made during the ideafase
First of all, I started sketching divergently to generate as many ideas as possible for the design and mounting on the handlebars. Then I combined all the ideas and made a selection due to a choise matrix. I optimised three different ideas to a concept by making sketches, foam models and simplistic 3D-CAD models.
Adding the different components to eachother
Working on the 3D print.
After elaborating the three different ideas, they were compared with each other using a choice matrix (based on the program of requirements and the vision). The idea that scored the best from this matrix was further developed into a concept. A 3D-CAD model has been made with the correct dimensions and design and the inside of the housing has also been worked out. This 3D CAD file was eventually also printed, so that the design and attachment of the various parts becomes clear.
'THE EASYBEAM' fits well with 'BBB Cycling' because of its simplistic and compact design. The bicycle light is easy to attach to and from the handlebars.
